Abstract:

The aim of this study was to examine echocardiographic and ergometric disorders in non-insulin dependent diabetics with myocardial infarction and their correlation with appearing of left ventricular diastolic dysfunction. We examined 80 patients with myocardial infarction (MI) treated in Military Hospital in Nis. They were divided into two groups: diabetics and non-diabetics. Doppler echocardiography was used for evaluating left ventricular diastolic function, and ergometric parameters were obtained by bicycle ergometer "Quinton" - Bruce protocol.Diastolic blood pressure and heart rate were higher in diabetics. Double product and power (68.75±13.5 and 50±14.97W) were lower in diabetics. They also had frequent appearances of ST depression, dyspnea, palpitation, and rhythm disturbances in rest and after ergo test. Fatigue and pain were more prominent symptoms in non-diabetics. The Doppler mitral E wave was similar between these groups and the A wave was increased in diabetics (0.51 ±0.05 vs. 0.48±0.09, p<0.01). E/A ratio was significantly decreased in diabetics as a sign of worst diastolic dysfunction (1.14±0.09 vs. 1.26±0.17; p<0.01).
