El Carmelo: Historia de una antigua barriada bogotana en la cuenca del río Arzobispo (1900-1934)Keywords: Bogotá , 20th century , urban planning , urban renovation , use of land. Abstract: Towards the end of the 19th century, Bogotá began expanding north of San Diego. Studies of this expansion have focused on the urbanization of Chapinero, but few have looked at the urbanization of the basin of the Arzobispo River which brought together the urbanizing interests of large owners, the aspirations of various construction companies, and the decisions of Liberal governments to make decisive interventions to urban design. The urbanization of this basin included the construction of the Parque Nacional (National Park), the rise of various bourgeoisie neighborhoods, and the destruction of worker settlements such as El Carmelo, which bordered the river.
