O objetivo deste estudo é identificar as principais características do ensinamento do Concílio Vaticano II sobre a fórmula extra Ecclesiam nulla salus. Após uma breve introdu o, os números 14-16 da Lumen gentium s o analisados, tentando entender o sentido em que os termos “ecclesia”, “salus” e “extra Ecclesiam” s o utilizados. A conclus o salienta a importancia hermenêutica do contexto em que a fórmula tem sido usada em diferentes períodos da história, e o valor forte concedido pelo Conselho para a dimens o cristológica da Igreja na História da Salva o. The purpose of this study is to identify the main features of the teaching of Vatican Council II on the formula extra Ecclesiam nulla salus. After a brief introduction, numbers 14-16 of Lumen Gentium are analysed, trying to understand the sense in which the terms “ecclesia”, “salus” and “extra Ecclesiam” are used. The conclusion stresses the hermeneutical importance of the context in which the formula has been used in different periods of history, and the strong value accorded by the Council to the christological dimension of the Church in the History of Salvation.
