Francisco de Vitoria (1483-1546) exerceu influência decisiva na teologia dos séculos 16 e 17 e na teoria do direito natural dos povos, em perspectiva internacional, sobretudo através de suas duas Relectiones de indis. O propósito deste estudo é p r em relevo a base de suas discuss es ético-jurídicas, a saber, a sua concep o do dominium atribuível a indivíduos e/ou coletividades, na primeira parte de sua De indis recenter inventis relectio prior. Ponto de discuss o central e necessário será a maneira como Vitoria problematizou a teoria da servid o natural, na base das opini es de Aristóteles. Francisco de Vitoria (1483-1546) has exerted a decisive influence on 16th-17th centuries’ theology and the theory of the natural rights of peoples, in international perspective, especially through his two Relectiones de indis. The aim of this study is to highlight the basis of his ethical-juridical discussions, namely, the account of dominium that may be ascribed to individuals and/or collectivities, in the First Part of his De indis recenter inventis relectio prior. Central and necessary topic of debate will be the way how Vitoria treated the theory of natural slavery, having as a background the ideas of Aristotle.
