Historia de la cirugía del esófago en el Hospital Universitario "General Calixto García

Se expone una revisión histórica sobre la cirugía del esófago en el Hospital Universitario "General Calixto García" de La Habana, en la que se citan los primeros pacientes intervenidos en Cuba de esofagotomía cervical, esofagogastrectomía transpleurodiafragmática, esofagogastrostomía, sustitución subtotal del esófago con un tubo de piel colocado subcutáneamente, esofagocoloplastia, yeyunoesofagoplastia, gastroesofagoplastia y los aportes realizados en la cirugía de la esofagitis por reflujo, en el diagnóstico precoz y prevención de la necrosis del órgano transpuesto en las esofagoplastias y en el empleo de los instrumentos de sutura mecánica en la cirugía del esófago A historical review about the surgery of esophagus performed at the "General Calixto García" Teaching Hospital of Havana is presented. The first patients who underwent operations in Cuba of cervical esophagotomy, transpleurodiaphragmatic esophagogastrectomy, esophagogastrostomy, subtotal substitution of the esophagus with a skin tube placed subcutaneously, esophagocoloplasty, jejunoesophagoplasty, and gastroesophagoplasty are mentioned in this paper as well as the contributions made to the surgery of reflux esophagitis, to the early diagnosis and prevention of necrosis of the organ transposed in the esophagoplasty, and to the use of mechanical suture instruments in the esophagus surgery
