De l’immigré à l’émigré ? From immigrant to emigrant ? Biographical interviews in migratory context(s)

Si aucun domaine de recherche n’échappe a priori à l’impératif de contextualisation des parcours de vie étudiés, cette question revêt en sociologie des migrations un caractère exemplaire. Est-il possible d’apprécier pleinement un parcours de migration à partir d’une enquête de terrain menée dans un unique espace, selon le principe du hic et nunc ? Parce qu’il y va de leur objet d’étude lui-même, les études migratoires sont confrontées à l’ancrage territorial (de facto pluriel) des trajectoires individuelles qu’elles s’emploient à restituer et aux temporalités dans lesquelles elles s’inscrivent. Leur mise en récit, qui ne peut être réalisée simultanément ici et là-bas, situe d’emblée enquêteur et enquêté dans un contexte de production du discours dont les effets méritent d’être interrogés. Ce questionnement soulève directement celui de l’influence du contexte – défini ici par le territoire dans lequel se déroule l’enquête, mais également par les temporalités dans lesquelles s’inscrivent chercheurs et témoins – sur la mise en récit des parcours de vie.Cet article s’inscrit dans une démarche qui consiste à appréhender la relation enquêteur/enquêté à partir du dispositif d’enquête qui l’encadre, et des processus de subjectivation qui en émanent, afin de mieux considérer les contextes d’énonciation des biographies et leurs effets sur les contextualisations des parcours de vie. If no area of research can avoid resetting the life stories being studied in their context, the issue becomes exemplary in the specific field of the sociology of migrations. Is it possible to assess a migratory process with conclusions drawn from fieldwork in a single location, in accordance with the hic et nunc principle ? It is precisely because their object of study is at stake that migration studies are confronted by the spatial anchorings (necessarily plural) of the individual trajectories they aim to reconstitute, as well as by the temporal framework within which they occur. The very telling of a life story, which cannot be done both “here” and “there” at the same time, places interviewer and interviewee in a context of discourse production the effects of which need to be analyzed.
