Efectos agudos de fumar un cigarrillo sobre la función diastólica en pacientes con cardiopatía isquémica. Acute effect of smoking on the diastolic function in patients with ischemic heart disease.

Se estudiaron los efectos agudos del fumar cigarrillos en la función diastólica del ventrículo izquierdo mediante el análisis del flujo transmitral por ecocardiografía Doppler en 15 pacientes con cardiopatía isquémica confirmada angiográficamente. Los resultados fueron comparados con un grupo control de pacientes sanos. Los parámetros se analizaron antes y fumando un cigarrillo después de un período de abstinencia de 12 horas. La frecuencia cardíaca aumentó significativamente en ambos grupos y se demostró una disminución de la integral de área E (9,93 vs 7,40) p < 0,05 y de la relación de integral de área E/integral de área A (2,92 vs 1,44) p < 0,01 en el grupo de pacientes isquémicos. Las variables de función diastólica no se modificaron en el grupo control. Las alteraciones de la función diastólica son resultado de una relajación prolongada determinada por la isquemia miocárdica tras fumar un cigarrillo. The acute effects of smoking on the diastolic function of the left ventricle were studied through the analysis of the transmitral flow by Doppler echocardiography in 15 patients with angiographical confirmed ischemic heart disease. The results were compared with those of a control group of sound patients. The parameters were analyzed before smoking and while the patient was smoking a cigarette after 12 hours of abstinence. Heart rate increased significantly in both groups and it was observed a reduction of the E area integral (9.93 vs 7.40) p <0.05 and of the E area integral/A area integral relation ship (2.92 vs 1.44) p < 0.01 in the group of ischemic patients. The variables of the diastolic function were not modified in the control group. The alterations of the diastolic function are the result of a prolonged relaxation determined by myocardial ischemia after smoking a cigarette.
