STUDIES REGARDING THE AGRICULTURAL POTENTIAL OF THE NORTH-EASTERN DEVELOPMENT REGIONKeywords: agricultural potential , North-Eastern Region , agricultural resources , regional development Abstract: The North-eastern region is the moat extended region of Romania, having a surface of 36.850 sq km (15,46% of the total surface of the country). It has a external borders with Ukraine and Moldavian Republic. In its component there are 6 counties: Bac u, Boto ani, Neam , Ia i, Suceava and Vaslui, administrative-territorial and territorial- statistic units.The region is characterized by a harmonious combination between all the relief forms, 30% mountains, 30% sub-Carpathian relief, 40% plateau. The rich relief offers hilly and plain zones which are adequate to a large range of agricultural cultures, and mountainous zone with spectacular landscape favourable to tourism development.From the comparison of data to the level of the North-eastern region and also at a national level we could notice a higher weight of the arable fields (65%) and of grazing lands with 23,32 % followed by grasslands with 9,35 %.The structure of the cultures of the N-E region shows a preponderant weight for maize culture (a weight of 26,78%) followed at a long distance by the wheat culture (a weight of 8,78 %).Thorough awareness of the structure of agricu;ltural use can ensure to the leading units an instrument for applying those economic-social measures that can lead to complete and correct use of landed resources (location of economic objectives in the rural environment, production concentration and specialization etc.).
