Abstract:

The paper focuses on the self-evaluation of schools and teachers. Based on the outcomes of the self-evaluation schools themselves can decide on their further development. Self-evaluation allows control of the school, its school curriculum from the inside. This paper is focused mainly on the self-evaluation of individual teacher. If a teacher has to plan its own further development, he must be capable of self-reflection. He should be able to reflect the results of his own educational process and use basic methods of educational research, to name his strengths and weaknesses in the profession. The paper indicates the options and procedures of motivational-evaluation interview between a teacher and the headteacher within the school practice. It presents a research of the professional activities of pre-school and primary school teachers supported by the Slovak Research and Development Agency under the contract No. APVV-0026-07 and the results of a survey of the pre-school teachers’ professional skill level. The authoress stresses the need for a systematic self-evaluation of schools and the individual teachers.
