KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS BASED PAY FOR TEACHERS: 4 CASES FROM THE UNITED STATESKeywords: Knowledge and skills based play , teacher , evaluation , teaching standards Abstract: This article is focused on knowledge and skills based pay for teachers. It presents 4 different cases of this approach from the U.S.: ProComp, Vaughn Next Century Learning Center, TAP and Q Comp. This analysis and other researches on successful approaches to teacher evaluation suggests that: 1. Teacher evaluation should be based on professional teaching standards. 2. Evaluations should include multi-faceted evidence of teacher practice, student learning, and professional contributions. 3. Evaluators should be knowledgeable about instruction and well trained in the evaluation system. 4. Evaluation should be accompanied by useful feedback, and connected to professional development opportunities that are relevant to teachers’ goals and needs.
