An Example to Participatory Heritage Conversation in Turkey: The Birgi Summer School Model= Türkiye'de Kat l mc Korumaya Bir rnek: Birgi Yazokulu Modeli

"Participation " through regeneration, revitalization and amelioration has the priority in Turkey among other problems in issues related with cultural and natural heritage. A workshop at the spring of 1998 and Summer Schools in 1998 and 1999 at Birgi are jointly organized by the Municipality of Birgi, the Mimar Sinan University and the EKüL Foundation, a non-governmental organization . The town of Birgi has largely conserved its identity as an outcome of cultural accumulation through centuries as well as due to lack of properly speculation. The local authority realized that the repopulation of the deserted town and regeneration of economic life can only be come true through a preservation plan realized by experts and asked the expertise of the university. Hereby, the town of Birgi is selected as a "model for participatory plan-ning". Through an assessment of results of Summer School, this plan will broaden its scope as the "Preservation-Revitalization-Development Project of Kü ükmenderes Basin " including neighbouring towns. Other universities, public administrative bodies and NGO 'in nationwide may also take part in this joint organization. Therefore, inheritence of local natural and cultural heritages through preservation, revitalization and enhancement (which are sources Kültürel ve do al varl klar m z n ya anarak, ya at larak ve geli tirilerek korunabilmesinde ya anan sorunlar n ba nda "kat l m" gelmektedir. Kat l m n sa lanmas ile koruma bilincinin olu turulmas mümkündür. 1998 Bahar' nda Birgi'de ger ekle tirilen at lye al mas ard ndan 1998 ve 1999 yaz d nemlerinde düzenlenen Yaz Okulu, Yerel Y netimin (Birgi Belediyesi), üniveriste'nin (MSü), Sivil Toplum Kurulu u'nun ( EKüL) ü lü organizasyonu ile ger ekle mi tir. Birgi yüzy llar n birikimi ile sahip oldu u kimli ini, rant bask s alt nda kalmad i in büyük l üde korumu tur. Yerel y netim Birgi'nin kaybetti i nüfu sun tekrar kazand r lmas n n, ekonomik canl l a kavu turulmas n n, ancak uzmanlar taraf ndan haz rlanacak bir koruma plan ile ger ekle ebilece inin bilinci ile hareket etmi , üniversiteden talepte bulunmu tur.
