FORMER STUDENTS’ PERCEPTION OF THE CONTRIBUTION FROM THE FOA – UNESP EXTRAMURAL DENTAL SERVICE (SEMO) IN THE PROFESSIONAL FORMATION Percep o de ex-alunos sobre a contribui o do Servi o Extramuro Odontológico (SEMO) da FOA – UNESP na forma o profissional

The extension activities aim at meeting a specific social demand, revitalizing and improving the teaching and consequently stimulating the research and the extension itself, contributing later to the transformation of the social reality. Since 1964, through an agreement with the City Hall of Ara atuba, the Ara atuba Dental School - UNESP (FOA) develops the Extramural Dental Service (SEMO). With the purpose of evaluating the importance of SEMO in the professional formation, it was verified the perception of former FOA graduation students, graduated in 1999, about this service, through a question annexed to the discipline’s evaluation, sent them by mail. In this study, the results obtained as answer and analyzed through the technique of social research denominated content analysis are presented. In the answers, quotations referring to the professional formation, to the work in public health services, to the social character of the service, to the clinical activities and the positive and negative aspects of SEMO can be found. The results confirm that the extramural activities developed in FOA - UNESP contributed to the professional formation of the former academics, qualifying professionals committed to the collective oral health. As atividades de extens o objetivam atender uma demanda social específica, revitalizando e aperfei oando o ensino e, conseqüentemente, estimulando a pesquisa e a própria extens o, contribuindo posteriormente para a transforma o da realidade social. Desde 1964, por meio de um convênio com a Prefeitura Municipal de Ara atuba, a Faculdade de Odontologia de Ara atuba - UNESP (FOA) desenvolve o Servi o Extramuro Odontológico (SEMO). Com o propósito de avaliar a importancia do SEMO na forma o profissional, foi verificada a percep o de egressos do curso de gradua o da FOA, formados em 1999, sobre esse servi o, por meio de uma quest o anexada à avalia o da disciplina, enviada por correio a eles, sendo apresentados, neste trabalho, os resultados obtidos como resposta e analisados pela técnica de pesquisa social denominada análise de conteúdo. Nas respostas, foram encontradas cita es referentes à forma o profissional, ao trabalho em servi os de saúde pública, ao caráter social do servi o, às atividades clínicas e aos aspectos positivos e negativos do SEMO. Os achados confirmam que as atividades extramuros desenvolvidas na FOA – UNESP contribuíram para a forma o profissional dos ex-acadêmicos, capacitando profissionais comprometidos com a saúde bucal coletiva.
