Abstract:

The nano particle based targeted drug delivery is the most important aspect of nano- medicines. Nanomedicine that means the application of nanotechnology to medicine has enabled the development of nanoparticle therapeutic carriers. The aim of using nanoparticles in pharmaceutical science is to reduce toxicity and side effects of chemotherapeutic drugs. Specifically in cancer therapy it provides a superior option to the chemotherapy otherwise in which the whole human body is flooded with chemicals. Some chemotherapies are life threatening in themselves. In recent year it has been realized that the use of nano particle drug delivery systems (carrier system) themselves may impose some risks to the patients though the hazards are lesser than conventional methods. This paper provides an overview on some of the nanoparticles used as drug delivery system today. In this review, the aim is to discuss the various nanoparticle drug delivery platforms and the important concepts involved in nanoparticle drug delivery. The attempt has also been made to draw attention towards hazards in their applications
