Os Assentamentos Rurais em Mato Grosso: Uma Análise dos Dados do Censo da Reforma Agrária

This paper described the characteristics of Mato Grosso's settlements part of the land reform program. The first part describes the historical roots of the land concentration problem, with a short history of the colonization projects, the land ownership pattern and the laws that favored large farms which characterize Mato Grosso's nowadays agriculture. The second and most important part describes the rural settlements using the Agrarian Reform Census data of 2002, comparing the results with other studies at national and state levels. The work contributes to regional literature offering descriptions of rural settlements and highlighting the small scale agriculture of the state.
