Religious attitude scale: scale development and validationKeywords: religious attitude , validity , reliability , intrinsic religiosity , Francis religious attitude scale , Islam , religion , Turkey Abstract: In this paper a scale of religious attitude (in an Islamic tradition) was constructed and its metric properties were introduced on the basis of its tests on two different samples (ns=930 and 388) of university students. It was found that the scale, which was named as Ok-Religious Attitude Scale, recorded high alpha scores (.81 and .91). Both explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses confirm that the scale with its four subscales (cognitive, emotional, behavioural and relational) form an ideal model. It was also observed that the scale revealed a powerful criterion validity which was obtained from its comparison with Francis Scale of Attitude Towards Christianity (Francis et al., 2005) and Intrinsic Religiosity scale (Allport & Ross, 1967). In its final form the scale seems to be a reliable, valid and viable tool with its economic and consistent content to be used in social science researches with a religiosity variable.
