LOS ENSAYOS DE MONTAIGNE COMO PROYECTO POLíTICO EN LA MUERTE DE MONTAIGNE DE JORGE EDWARDS

Este trabajo estudia cómo La muerte de Montaigne, de Jorge Edwards, puede ser vista como un intento de convertir el escepticismo que caracteriza los Ensayos de Montaigne en un proyecto político de corte democrático. En la primera parte se realiza una breve historia de la recepción de la obra de Montaigne en la literatura y la política latinoamericanas, mientras que en la segunda parte se analiza La muerte de Montaigne como un intento de trasplantar literaria y políticamente el escepticismo de los Ensayos a Latinoamérica. Abstract This paper studies Jorge Edwards's La muerte de Montaigne as an attempt to translate the skeptical tone present in Montaigne's Essays into a political project bearing a democratic intent. In its first part the paper focuses on the history of the reception of Montaigne in Latin American literature and politics. In the second part it analyzes La muerte de Montaigne as an attempt to transplant to Latin America the literary andpolitical implications of the skepticism that pervades the Essays.
