A Tuscan Capital from Rusellae: Comparisons and Hypotheses Un capitello tuscanico da Rusellae: confronti e ipotesi

Il contributo presenta l’analisi di un capitello tuscanico di pilastro, fuori contesto, proveniente da Roselle, con caratteristica forma a cuore che induce ad attribuirlo ad una struttura porticata identificata verosimilmente con il Foro. Esso costituisce, allo stato attuale, uno dei pochi casi noti in Italia, dove il pilastro cuoriforme fu adottato nell’architettura romana non frequentemente; inoltre permette di ricostruire e comprendere meglio la ristrutturazione subita dalla piazza in epoca imperiale. This paper presents the analysis of a heart-shaped Tuscan capital, avoid of context, found in Rusellae. Its shape allows to attribute it hypothetically to an arcaded structure identified with the Forum. Currently it is one of the few know evidences in Italy, where the heart-shaped pillar was not frequently used in Roman architecture. It also allows a better understanding of the restoration of the Forum during the Imperial era.
