These days, the dentofacial deformity treatment aims at an aesthetic and functional result. The maxillary transverse defi ciency is a deformity originated by the non-growing or small development of the maxillary bone and can be a characteristic of the people of any age. Patients who presentmaxillary transverse defi ciency can be treated during their growing process through the facial orthopedics and orthodontic treatment. However, after the individual s complete growth, surgical treatment is recommended. The surgery must only be performed when there is no alternative to choose a less invasive procedure and the professionals that will certainly arise during the execution of the treatment. This paper reviews the literature as a means to clarify the complications that may arise at the pre, trans and post-operative stages on the surgical treatment of the maxilla bone transverse deficiency.
