UN PRIMER PROYECTO DE CONCORDATO ENTRE CHILE Y LA SANTA SEDE EN 1928 FIRST PROJECT FOR A CONCORDAT BETWEEN CHILE AND THE HOLY SEE ON 1928

Con ocasión de la separación entre la Iglesia y el Estado regulada en la Constitución de 1925 hubo conversaciones tendientes a la celebración de un concordato entre el Estado de Chile y la Santa Sede de lo cual hay referencias, pero se ha desconocido la existencia de proyectos concretos encaminados a este fin. La reciente apertura del Archivo Secreto Vaticano en lo referido a los fondos del pontificado del papa Pío XI ha permitido conocer los borradores que se redactaron en dicha oportunidad con la finalidad de llegar a un acuerdo internacional de esa naturaleza. Se presenta, seguidamente, un primer borrador de concordato presentado al cardenal secretario de Estado por el embajador de Chile ante la Santa Sede, en mayo de 1928. Cada uno de los artículos va acompa ado de un comentario que facilita su comprensión y valoración. On occasion of the church and state separation regulated by the Constitution of 1925, conversations took place, in order to celebrate a concordat between the Chilean State and the Holy See, of which there are references, though the existence of concrete projects aimed at achieving this end has been ignored. The recent opening of the Vatican Secret Archive, with reference to the funds of Pope Pius XI’s pontificate has enabled the knowledge of drafts written on that occasion, with the intention of reaching an international agreement on such matter. Then the first draft of the concordat submitted to the Cardinal Secretary of State by the Chilean Ambassador on May 1928 is presented. Each of the articles is accompanied by a commentary, in order to facilitate its comprehension.
