Quality of Life, Anxiety and Depression in Nurses Working at Primary Health Care and HospitalsKeywords: Nurse , anxiety , depression , quality of life , sleep Abstract: Aim: to compare anxiety, depression, quality of life, some socio-demographiccharacteristics affecting those in nurses working at primary health care centers andTraining and Research Hospitals.Method: The study encountered female nurses working in Primary Health Carecenters and Trabzon Numune Training and Research Hospital, assigning into twogroups. Between December 2008 and January 2009, a total of 100 subjects, covering50 subjects from each group was planned to encounter (n1=50, n2=50). Data werecollected by applying socio-demographic information form, SF–36 quality of lifescale, Beck Depression Inventory, State-Trait Anxiety Scale and Epworth SleepinessScale to subjects agreed to participate in the study. Parametric and non-parametrictests were used for statistical analysis and p<0.05 was accepted for significance.Results: A total of 100 nurses from Training and Research Hospital and PrimaryHealth Care centers were taken into study. No statistical significant differencesbetween nurses from both groups were observed for the state anxiety, trait anxiety,depression scale and SF-36 quality of life, and similar results were obtained.However, Epworth sleepiness scale between the two groups was statisticallysignificant (p=0.019). Parameters in preferring workplace, endorsing theiroccupation for their-self, total working time a week and job satisfaction wereobserved statistically significant between groups (p=0.027, p=0.005, p=0.030 andp<0.0001 respectively).Conclusion: It was concluded that quality of life was adversely affected in nursesworking in different work conditions. Quality of life in nurses working at trainingand research hospitals was more adversely affected than in primary care settings,
