A Case of Rhinocerebral Mucormycosis Presenting with Garcin SyndromeKeywords: Mucormycosis , brain , cranial nerves , Garcin syndrome Abstract: Rhinocerebral mucormycosis is a rare fungal infection which is capable of causing a fatal outcome and commonly affects diabetic and immunocompromised patients. Early symptoms are fever, nasal ulcerations or necrosis, periorbital or facial edema, and decreased vision. In the literature, there are only a few cases of rhinocerebral mucormycosis which presented with involvement of all cranial nerves unilaterally, known as Garcin syndrome. In this report, we presented a 65-year-old immunosupressed and diabetic female with rhinocerebral mucormycosis and left Garcin syndrome. It should not be forgotten that rhinocerebral mucormycosis can present with unilateral palsies of all cranial nerves and further investigations should be considered in suspected cases because of the life-threatening character of this infection.
