Discrimination of Pistachios Varieties with Neural Network using some Physical Characteristic

A neural network was planned to discriminate five major varieties of pistachio nuts: Ahmad_aghayee, Akbari, Badami, Fandoghi and Kaleh_ghoochi, using models combining selected physical features of each variety. Best quality pistachios, 100 from each variety graded by experts, were used for training and testing the five models. The results from the classifier with different classification models were evaluated with the results from a statistical classifier and showed that the models had classification accuracies between 88.0 and 99.4%. The most accurate model employed of physical features of the pistachios with a classification accuracy of 99.6%. Also for the statistical classifier, this model gave the highest classification accuracy but it was less than the neural network classifier.
