TEACHERS’ PERCEPTION OF SUPERVISORY ROLES IN PRIMARY SCHOOLS IN OSUN STATE OF NIGERIA

Abstract:

The focus of this study was on supervisory roles as perceived by primary school teachers in Osun State of Nigeria. Stratified random sampling method was used to select 330 teachers who responded to ‘Supervisory Role Perception Inventory’. The t-test statistic was used to analyse the data collected on the three hypotheses that were formulated in the study. It was found that male and female teachers tend to have a similar perception of supervisory roles; that perception of supervisory roles tends to be different between experienced and less experienced teachers; and that, teachers in urbanand rural schools tend to be different in their perception of supervisory roles. Conclusion was that supervisory role perception among primary school teachers was influenced by the teachers’ years ofexperience and location of schools. Recommendations included regular conferences, seminar and workshops for teachers and supervisors in order to encourage positive perception and foster good relationship among them.
