Abstract:

Biometrics is an automated method of recognizing a person based on physiological or behavioral characteristics. Biometric recognition technology relies upon the physiological characteristic of an individual, offering positive identification that is difficult to counterfeit. Examples of physiological biometric features include height, weight, body odor, the shape of the hands, vein patterns, retina or iris, face, fingerprints etc. examples of behavioral biometrics are voice pattern, signature, keystroke sequences, gait etc. Biometric systems have evolved significantly over the past years from single-sample verification matchers to a wide range of multi-sample fully automated person recognition systems. Biometric technologies are becoming the foundation of an extensive array of highly secure identification and personal verification solutions. As the level of security breaches and transaction frauds increases, the need for highly secure identification and personal verification technologies is becoming apparent.
