ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES USED IN ART AND DESIGN MAIN STUDY AT TEACHER EDUCATION LEVEL IN ZIMBABWE: VALIDITY AND RELIABILITY.Keywords: Assessment , Art and Design , Reliability and Validity. Abstract: An assessment of an assessment’ is done here to ascertain validity and reliability of measuring the capabilities of Art and Design learner teachers in Zimbabwe. The study sought to evaluate the worthiness, quality and effectiveness of the assessment procedures being used for Art and Design as a Main Study subject at teacher education level. Participating teachers’ colleges for the survey were drawn from Masvingo province. The sample population was chosen using stratified random procedure. Thirty (30) Art and Design main study students and nine (9) Art and Design lecturers participated. Inspirations from both qualitative and quantitative designs were employed in the collection and analysis of data. Interviews, Documentanalysis and questionnaires were the chief data collecting methods used. The study revealed that the assessment procedures used at the time of research had a propensity of bias, inconsistency and subjectivity. The assessment also lacks content validity. The study has therefore recommended in-service training of lecturers and adoption of other assessment strategies for this practical subject.
