Prevención, atención y protección de las víctimas y posibles víctimas de la trata de personas por parte del municipio de Medellín

Slave trade phenomenon currently shows characteristics similar to the drug andweapon traffic. Most victims are women and children exploited by sex industry,cheap labor, and forced marriages. For year 2008, Medellin was occupying thesecond place among Colombian municipalities displaying the highest case reports;therefore, it was decided to make an analysis on the local public policy relatedto this scourge. The analysis drove to three main conclusions; first, there is apublic policy just going through a construction phase; second, the municipalityhas some measures (instead of a real public policy) against prostitution, sexualexploitation or sexual abuse, especially focused on underage children; third, oneof the main causes resulting in prostitution and sexual exploitation or abuse isthe indistinct treatment several social players have given to problems such asprostitution, sexual abuse, and slave trade.
