Quality Management in the Nigerian Healthcare System: A Case Study of Isalu Hospitals Limited, Ogba, Lagos

Globally, hospitals and healthcare institutions are established to save human lives. In Nigeria, the notion is the same in medical practice. This study looked at quality management in the Nigerian healthcare system with particular reference to Isalu Hospitals Limitd, Ogba in Lagos State. The study adopted exploratory approach. Data were collected in June 2009. Primary data collected were Focus Group Discussion (FGD) and questionnaire. One hundred patients were selected by simple random sampling technique for the study. Data collected were statistically analysed using descriptive statistics - graphs, means and simple percentage. The study posited that as patients are becoming more knowledgeable in medical practice, healthcare practitioners should strive to move steps ahead in research, attendance and treatment. To achieve quality management within the healthcare environment, this study proferred among other things that there should be collaborative efforts of both the professional practitioners and other professionals in the areas of information management, patient management, staff management and human resource management.
