Helping Exchange Networks: An Exploration of Subjective Attributions for "Completing" a Social ExchangeKeywords: helping behavior , religion and helping behavior Abstract: How is it that people connect what might otherwise by unrelated events and how do these subjective connections affect one's decision-making process to help another? Using the ethnographic approach to study helping behavior, this paper seeks to expand understandings of helping behavior and social exchange theory by explicitly focusing on the subjective causal attributions that actors make to "complete" an exchange.
