層面分類的概念由來已久，而且早在1930年代Ranganathan的冒號分類法即全面使用層面分類的概念。近年來，則有越來越多的商業網頁在資訊的呈現方式中採用層面分類的概念。為對層面分類有更進一步的認識，本文從層面分類的發展源流談起，並詳述其概念、特質及其優勢與限制。再說明從過去到現在，層面分類在不同領域的應用狀況，最後並探討層面分類的未來發展趨勢。 The concept of faceted classification has its long history and importance in the human civilization. Recently, more and more consumer Web sites adopt the idea of facet analysis to organize and display their products or services. The aim of this article is to review the origin and development of faceted classification, as well as its concept, essence, advantage and limitation. Further, the applications of faceted classification in various domains have been explored.
