LEAF EPIDERMAL STRUCTURE IN10SPECIES OF ANNONACEAE
|
Abstract:
Withthe helpof LM and SEM,leafepidermalstructurewas studiedin10speciesof Annonaceae.Epidermalcellsof themarepolygonalandnearlyisodiametricor irregularin outlinewith straight, arched, sinuolate, undulateor sinuateanticlinalwalls. In Fissistigma oldhamii andF.uonicum, theouterpericlinalwallsof abaxialepidermalcellsarepapillate.Drusesor prismaticcrystals arefoundin someepidermalcellsof somespecies.Thestomatain9speciesarerestrictedto abaxial surface, onlystomatainArtabotrys hexapetalus aredistributedon bothadaxialandabaxialsides. The maturestomataof10speciesareparacyticwith2-6subsidiarycells.Contiguousandabortivestomata arealsoobservedin somespecies.Simpleunicellular, uniseriateor biseriatemulticellular, clavateand stellate(tufted)trichomesarepresenton differentsurfacesin9speciesexceptAnnona glabra, the surfacesof whichareglabrous. All charactersof theleafepidermalstructureas mentionedaboveareof significancein the identificationof some taxa at specificor genericlevel, and in probingtheir systematicrelationship.
