The Synergistic Emission Reduction of GHG and Sulfur Dioxide in the World’s Major Countries and Its Revelation
|
Abstract:
Studies have shown that traditional pollution reduction measures have co-benefits effects on greenhouse gas emissions control. At present, the synergistic reduction of greenhouse gas and traditional air pollutants in Europe, the United States, Japan and other developed countries have become advanced. Therefore, to study from them has important reference value for China’s air pollution control and greenhouse gas reduction. In this paper, with data of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions and energy consumption of the above countries from the World Bank, the International Energy Agency, the UN, the European Commission and the National Bureau of Statistics of China, the relativity between energy consumption and carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emissions of thermal power industry was analyzed. Besides, under the pre-set emission reduction scenarios, the emission reduction of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide was calculated. The results are as follows: 1) The coefficients of correlation of energy consumption and the emission of carbon dioxide are 0.9291, -0.2965, 0.9357 and 0.9978; the coefficient of correlation of energy consumption and the emission of sulfur dioxide is 0.8738. Therefore, the energy consumption shows high linear correlation with the emission of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide; 2) Under the pre-set emission reduction scenarios of the European Union, that is, the emission of carbon dioxide will reduce by 20% in 2020 as compared with the level in 2007, the carbon dioxide emission will reduce by 4.92 million tons and the sulfur dioxide emission will reduce by 218.03 thousand tons. The potential of carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide emission reduction is great in China, and the experience of synergistic reduction of Europe and other developed countries means a lot to China.
