HYDROLOGICAL SCIENCE TOWARDS GLOBAL CHANGE: PROGRESS AND CHALLENGE

Having been invited to the Global Change Opening Science Conference and the 6 th Scientific Assembly of the International Association of Hydrological Science, the authors outline progresses and challenges confronted by hydrological science in the new century, which have been presented in the above-mentioned conferences. Main subjects suggested as key points in the future are as follows: global change and scientific issues of hydrology, development of hydrological sciences and water resources safety, prospect and opportunity of hydrological science in the 21 st century. It is argued that, by employing the new research directions and hot issues within the international hydrological science, chinese researchers can launch out more basic researches of water resources and those oriented towards nation's needs.
