PROSPECT ON WATER RESOURCES EXPLOITATION,AND UTILIZATION IN HAINAN ISLAND
|
Abstract:
ainan is the second largest island in China which has great potential in agricultural development thanks to its advantageous natural conditions and rich resources. But however,. currently, all the water required for domestic use and socio-economic development in Hainan has to, depend upon precipitation because of isolation of the iD1and on the sea and its disconnection with the continent in water sources. Of the plentiful precipitation, the available water resources are inadequate for the uneven temporal-spatial. distribution of sufficient precipitation brings little rainfall in 'the .half. year-long dry sea6on which is clearly distinct from wet season. In addition, the lack of necessary water conservancy projects to regulate and store surplus watrer in wet season results in the discharge of most surface runoff into sea for nothing. As a consequence, the demands of available water for both domestic purpose in urban area and agricultural production fall short of supply. In order to change the present situation and satisfy future water requirements, efforts should be doubled to quicken the speed of water conservancy construction for the sake of providing more water resources to the society by means of improving water storage capacity.
