CHINA'S ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN POOR MOUNTAINOUS AREAS: ON POLICY STRATEGY

Natural resources in poor mountainous areas of China are abundant and diver-sified, but lack of rational development. These areas are home to many ethnic nationalities, and many economic forms exist in there. However, with inconveni-ent traffic conditions, insufficient culture, education and hygiene facilities, rapid growth of population; and lack of scientific knowledge, these areas are generally underdeveloped,Now, the state has taken a series of poverty relief measures,and some achievements have been made. In order to make a better life for the peoples in these backward mountainous areas, the following measures should be taken: trying to improve the degree of self-sufficiency in grain consumption; promoting diversified production actively; developing commodity economy; strengthening the system of socialized service;making efforts to develop the wisdom of human bei-ngs; regarding the science and technology as the mainstay of economic devel-opment, enhancing the economic links with other areas and carrying out the policy of opening to the outside world; reinforcing the leadership of economic develop-ment in poor mountainous areas in every aspect.
