THE EFFECTS OF SOIL FERTILITY DEGRADATION ON SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURAL DEVELOPMENT
|
Abstract:
This paper discusses the effect of nonnatural factors such as agricultural production system and farming practices on soil fertility.Special attention was paid to the effect of soil fertility degradation on sustainable agricultural development. Results indicated that the applcation of high yielding crop varieties, excess fertilization, pesicide application and adoption of minimum tillage increased immediate output. However, these practices showed negative effects on soil basal productivity, sustainability and stability of crop production and fertilizer efficiency.Essential measures for protecting and enhancing farmland productivity include the establishment of monitoring network of soil fertility, building up high standardized farmland facilities, practising reasonable crop rotation system and tillage methods as well as using more organic manure.
