ANALYSIS OF THE REGIONAL CHARACTERISTICS OF DYNAMIC CHANGES IN CHINA'S CULTIVATED LAND RESOURCES AND COUNTERMEASURES

he decrease of cultivated land resources has become one of the most importantproblems in China and the trend of decrease will continue with further developmentof national economy. In this paper, the spatial characteristics and reasons accountable for the loss of cultivated land are studied through analysis of total loss,net loss,percentage of total loss and percentage of net loss of cultivated land area ofthe thirty provinces (regions) covering 1987 to 1994 which is beneficial for decisionmakers in working out feasible policies and plans to prevent further decrease ofcultivated land.
