Land Resources Change on Taroko National Park High Mountain Region
|
Abstract:
Due to its uniqueness in geology and geographical position, the high mountain region in Taiwan preserves diverse ecosystems. Nonetheless, human activities in road construction, farming, and man-made structures have accelerated the alteration of the environment in the high mountain region. This research investigates the land resources in the high mountain region of the Taroko National Park over a period of time by employing the remote sensing images of developed areas, which are geographically corrected at different stages. Our study indicates that the utilization oI lands is strongly related to geomorphology and accessibility. The developed areas are mostly along the roads, among which the west of Da-Yu-Lin is the most developed. The Taroko National Park was formally established in 1986 to have the environmental damages under control, and to build up a long term monitoring system for national parks in general on destructive land management.
