ON THE INCREASE OF MULTIPLE CROPPING INDEX OF CULTIVATED LAND IN SOUTHERN CHINA

his paper explores the necessity and possibility in increasing multiple cropping index (MCI) of cultivated land in southern China. It identifies existing problems based on general reviews of the evolution processes and characteristics of MCI in this part of the country. Analyses of the possible economic, ecological and social benefits that can be resulted in following the increase of MCI as well as ways and countermeasures for achieving the goal in southern China are made.
