CANOPY GAP CHARACTERISTCS AND THEIR INFLUENCES ON THE REGENERATION OF BROAD-LEAVED PINUS KORIENSIS FORESTS IN CHANGBAI MOUNTAIN
|
Abstract:
Concerned in the species regeneration, characteristics of canopy gaps in broad-leaved Pinus koriensis forests in Changbai Mountain are studied. The amount of actual gap areas less than 250m 2 accounts for 70% of investigated areas, while the expand gap areas of more than 70% are between 100 to 500m 2.The maximum gap area is between 300 to 900m 2. The wind disturbance is the most important exodus disturbance regime in broad leaved Korea pine forests in Changbai Mountain. There are 2.65 gap makers in one gap on average, and following gap makers account for more than 90% of the whole: Pinus koriensis , Tilia amurensis, Quercus mongolica, and Ulmus japonica. The comparative study on the regeneration of Broad leaved Pinus koriensis forests in Changbai Mountain between canopy gaps and canopies shows that the density of regeneration increases 30% in canopy gaps compared with canopies. The individual species regeneration in response to canopy gaps is much different.
