On the Fundamental Problems ConcerningSummer Retreat Economy
避暑经济的几个基础性问题探讨

With climate warming and city heat-island effect being intensified, summer retreattourism is becoming a new and strategically precious resource. Summer retreat economy istherefore receiving increasing attention in this context. The most fundamental problems regardingthe summer retreat economy like its concepts, connotation, extension, characteristics, and structurestill remain unclear and controversial. The paper makes an attempt to provide insight into suchessential problems on the basis of a systematic review of the practice and research about summerretreat economy. It is indicated that: 1) the summer retreat economy is defined as a systematiceconomic mode which relies highly on climate resources and is based on summer retreat tourism;2) the summer retreat economy is primarily characterized by climate economy, service economy,ecological economy, comprehensive economy, and brand economy; 3) there exist core industrycircle, mainstay industry circle, and extensional industry circle in the summer retreat economicindustry system; and 4) the four-level promotion theory seems to be useful for the exploitation ofsummer resorts. Finally, the paper gives some related policy advice on how to promote thedevelopment of the summer retreat economy in China.
