Studies on the Relationship among Farmland Decrease and Land Loss of Farmers and Economic Growth

With the deepening of China's economic reform and opening up and the rapid urbanization process,the total area of arable land has decreased.Contradictions between large population and limited land resources have become more and more serious and attentions on problem of land loss farmers have been paid greatly by whole society.Through systematic analysis of relationship among farmland decrease,land loss of farmers and economic growth,the constraints of land and employment in China's economic growth may be solved properly.This article brings land loss of farmers into the analysis framework and analyzes the relationship between farmland decrease and economic growth and provides a new angle of view to study the question of land loss of farmers.This research estimates the number of land-loss farmers from 1984 to 2004 in China and thus provides the data support for the empirical analysis.The article also analyzes the relationship among farmland decrease,land loss of farmers and economic growth by the method of ADF.The results show that from 1984 to 2004,the population of farmers who lost their farmland reached to 80 million.Economic growth is the cause of farmland decrease,but farmland decrease is not the cause of economic growth.There is a cause-effect relationship between the population of unemployed farmers and economic growth.The same relationship exists among Farmland decrease,the population of unemployed farmers and GDP growth in the first industry and second industry.but there is no cause-effect relationship between net decrease of farmland and economic growth.The result of variables' quadratic curve fitting is not satisfactory,which illustrates that the further study is still needed.
