ECOLOGICAL REHABILITATION OF POOR KARST MOUNTAIN AREA:REGIONAL MODEL

Concerning problems of the poverty and environmental degradation in Karst mountain areas,this paper puts forward strategies on ecological rehabilitation with the aim of coordinating man land relationship and realizing sustainable development of regional ecological human system.The core is to seek ecological optimization of the whole regional man land system.Based on the framework of ecological rehabilitation,Zhijin,one of the counties typical both in poverty and environmental degradation in Karst mountain areas of Guizhou Province of China was chosen for case study.According to investigations and analysis of the county's environmental degradation,especially land degradation,the study identifies the optimization of industrial and land use structures as the main content of ecological rehabilitation.Using the model of goal programming,this paper rejusts the industrial and land use structures of Zhijin County under different demands of industrial and agricultural output which increased by 10%,20%,50%,and 100% more than that of current respectively,and got to the maximum.The conclusion showed that when the current agricultural productivity and the demand of economic development were satisfied,it was feasible to limit the expansion of farmland and keep the demand of moderate food yield which is 300 kg per capita in Karst mountain counties such as Zhijin.The object of this study is to provide basis for the implementation of ecological rehabilitation in the study area in different phases of development.
