ROLE OF TRADITIONAL CULTURAL FACTORS IN LAND USE CHANGES IN THE QINGHAI-TIBET PLATEAU
|
Abstract:
Though human factors as attitude and value are important driving forces of land use changes, their role played in land use changes has not been deeply discussed yet. In respects to its unique geographical and cultural landscapes, the Qinghai Tibet Plateau is the representative region for such study. Therefore, the main concern of this paper is devoted to the role of Tibetan culture, in terms of their value towards nature, life and wealth, and other traditional cultural factors as dietetic and housing habits, energy consumption and funeral played in land use changes of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The result indicates that traditional culture, from a lot of respects, is such a force that helps to keep land use stable. Thus, it can be concluded that land use changes in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, to some extent, is the result of evolution of traditional culture driven by external culture and technological progress.
