A COMPACT FOURTH-ORDER UPWIND FINITE DIFFERENCE SCHEME FOR CONVECTION DIFFUSION EQUATION

Abstract:
A compact fourth-order upwind finite difference scheme, which takes classicalfirst-order upwind scheme as basic representation and thus has no grid Reynolds-number limitation, is developed for the convection diffusion equation with thehelp of a perturbation technique. Numerical examples including model equationsof fluid flow and a problem of high Rayleigh-number natural convection withboundary-layer effect are given to illustrate the excellent behavior of the presentscheme.
