Study on Friction and Wear Properties of Plasma Nitriding 45# Steel under Different Lubrication

Microstructure and chemical composition of plasma nitriding 45~# steel layer were analyzed by means of X-ray diffraction(XRD) and hardness tester.Friction and wear behavior of plasma nitriding 45~# steel were investigated with a SRV wear tester under lubrication of ionic liquid and liquid paraffin containing SO and TCP respectively.Friction and wear test show that plasma nitriding steel exhibited lower friction coefficient and anti-wear properties compared with non-treated steel.It is attributed to the synergistic effects between active elements in lubricants and surface nitriding layer.Antiwear and reducing friction mechanism was analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectrum(XPS).
