RECTANGULAR REISSNER-MINDLIN PLATE ELEMENTS BASED ON TAYLOR''S FORMULA

Abstract:
Using Taylor's formula in calculus we give a mathematical analysis of the locking beha-viour exhibited in the finite element approximation of Reissner-Mindlin plate as the thicknessof the plate tends to zero. Based on this analvsis we present a simple and efficient method toconstruct locking free rectangular Reissner-Mindlin plate elements. Two rectangular Reissner-Mindlin plate elements based on this method--ETF4 and ETF9--are presented. Numericalresults show that ETF4 and ETF9 are locking free and have good convergence behaviour.
