Abstract:

To improve the wear resistance of farm tools, WC high chrome cast iron composite was prepared on grey iron with the help of cast in place surface alloying. The abrasive wear behavior of the composite was studied and compared with that of nodular cast iron, quenched 45 # steel, and Fe 2B boride using an MM 200 wear tester. The results show that the composite with 20%WC had the best resistance to abrasive wear. It increased with increasing hardness and size of the abrasive. Besides, the resistance to plowing and brittle peeling of the composite was good as well.
