Abstract:

The effect of metallic surface film and wear debris on the dry sliding behavior and self generated voltage (SGV) of various metal metal systems was experimentally investigated on a specially designed ball on disc tribometer. The results show that the metallic surface film generated on the surfaces of Al, Cu, and AISI 1045 steel directly correlates to the friction behavior and SGV as they comprise frictional pairs with SUJ2 steel. The friction behavior and SGV of these frictional pairs are related to the wear debris of the metallic films more or less as well. The latter is governed by the different compositions and adherence to the metal substrate of the wear debris.
