Abstract:

Zr 65Al 7.5Ni 10Cu 17.5 alloy coating was produced on Ti substrate by laser cladding. The effect of C and B/Si incorporation on the mechanical and tribological behavior of the coating was examined based on observation of the microstructure and worn surface morphologies with transmittance electron microscope and scanning electron microscope. The resulting coatings consist of amorphous phase, intermetallic phase, and nanocrystalline phase. The incorporation of C and B/Si contributed to increase the hardness of the coatings from 1041HK to 1085HK and 1252HK, respectively, while the friction coefficient increased slightly. The predomination wear mechanisms of the coatings were abrasive wear, delamination, and adhesion wear.
