A Mechanism to Improve the Performance of MPLS-VPN Based on Label Stack

Internet has experienced an exponential growth in recent years,and various kinds of application are raising critical challenges to current IP network. The MPLS-based VPN technology is now becoming a good solution for the de- livery of future Internet services,and Multiprotocol Label Switching(MPLS) technology is being adopted by some lar- gest Internet service providers to offer VPN and some value-added applications on top of their VPN transport net works. In this paper,a novel mechanism based on using label stack properly is proposed to reduce the number of labels needed efficiently. As the result, the size of forwarding table can be reduced and then the forwarding speed can be im- proved efficiently. In this way,the performance of MPLS-based VPN can be improved. And our simulation results vali dated our approach,demonstrating that MPLS-VPN established by our approach has a better performance.
